The battle for the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division football crown will be up for grabs this Friday night at Aloha Stadium when Kahuku take on the challenge of Leilehua. Game time is 7:30 p.m. In the fight for the White Division title, it will be Moanalua verses Aiea. This contest starts at 4:30 pm., also at Aloha Stadium.

All four teams will receive automatic berths into the Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament with the Red Division teams playing in Division 1 and the White Division teams competing in Division 2. First-round games in the HHSAA tourney begins November 20 with the state title game being held on December 4 at Aloha Stadium.

Leilehua and Kahuku last played for the league title in 1984 with the Mules defeating the Red Raiders 18-7 behind QB Daniel Saragosa‘s three TD passes.

No. 1 seed Kahuku, undefeated at 9-0, hopes to continue its dominance in the OIA playoffs. The Red Raiders have advanced to the championship game eighth times in last 10 years.

Kahuku narrowly made it to the championship game, surviving with a 19-14 comeback win over Castle last Friday night at Aloha Stadium. With seconds remaining, running back Viliami Pasi scored the game-winning TD from the one-yard line.

With the victory, the Red Raiders expanded their OIA playoffs record to 23-2 since 2000 and have never lost once it reached the semifinal round in that span.

Leading the Kahuku offensive attack will be fullback Fonoivasa Mataafa and kicker Cameron Mercado. Senior Sage Kaka and Evan Moe shares the quarterback spot. On defense, the line is manned by college prospects Kona Schwenke, Hauoli Jamora and Veteson Sauni.

Leilehua air show will be on display with QB Andrew Manley throwing the passes and receiver Kamana Akagi being his prime target. Manley has 17 TD tosses for the year and over 2000 passing yards. Akagi has caught eight of those scores.

In its semifinals matchup, Leilehua defeated Farrington 9-3 last Friday night at Aloha Stadium. In that game, Manley completed 15 of 23 passes for 175 yards and Akagi had eight catches for 124 yards. The Mules won the league title in 2007 during Manley’s sophomore season.

Moanalua defeated Aiea, 31-14, earlier in the season and completed the White Division regular-season with an 8-0 record (8-1 overall). Moanalua's lone loss, 16-3 against Mililani, came in non-league play. They are led by offensive players Xavier Peterson and Tahje Canyon.

Aiea’s Freddy Taliulu is recognized as one of the top quarterbacks in the OIA. In the regular-season contest against Moanalua, Talaulu completed 22-of-32 passes for 227 yards.
